LEARNING HEALTHCARE
DURING A PANDEMIC
Award Winning Profile Piece Film | “Frontline Learning”
a learning curve like no other
The purpose of this study, titled "Front Line Learning," is to examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the learning experiences of a first-year nursing student. The study incorporates storytelling elements and employs a range of technical skills, including lighting, audio, video, motion typography, color grading, and pre-production planning. The study has received recognition in the form of both an ADDY award at the 2022 American Advertising Awards and Best of Show at the 2022 Jacksonville State University 49th annual student show.
This study holds a very special spot for me personally. Being able to showcase the hard-work and struggles that my younger sibling was experiencing during the beginning of the COIVD-19 pandemic while simultaneously creating successful and important work really inspired me as a creative director.
storyboards scene 01
Scene One emphasized lighting, composition, and audio, and introduced the subject through the act of making coffee. This created a personal look into the life of the subject.
filming scene 01
When filming I used as much natural light as possible while using a fill light to help focus the attention on the subject. With each composition the goal was to create shots that felt very personal and what made the viewers feel like they were apart of the “morning routine” for the subject.

During this study I wanted to work on my Foley skills. Using an H4n professional recorder, I took high quality audio recordings of objects in multiple scenes throughout the video and synced the audio with the visual, correcting levels as needed. Check out some of the raw audio for scene 01 below.
